Crazy news, sad news

Sad news first. Our incredible RA (residential advisor, for the uninitiated) James Bleshman got fired for stealing a candy bar from Weshop (the campus grocery store) because he didn't want to wait in line. He called a hall meeting a couple nights before and told us the news. Everyone on our hall is totally bummed, because we all love James, and he loves us. Almost every whiteboard on our hall says "We love James!" (except mine, which has a drawing of a robot saying "If I could feel emotion, I would be melancholy." Because robots can't feel emotion.) But yeah. Everyone's sad. But he's not moving too far away, and he said he would have a party for all of us in his room.

Okay, now crazy news. I cut my own hair! And it looks amazing! Somehow I managed to cut it pretty evenly on the front and sides (my friend Jake cut the back) despite sometimes doing it by touch instead of sight (because the movements of your hand and head are reversed in the mirror, and it feels like you're a sensory dyslexic. Whatever that is). So now my hair's short and my beard's gone, and some people don't recognize me because I came here with long hair and have had a beard for the past five weeks or so. But I'm totally proud of myself for cutting my own hair. You should be proud of me too.

P.S. I don't know how you do it, Christopher. Separation Sunday is now one of my favorite CDs. It's like it snuck into my brain and changed my taste in music. Weird.

I would try out Twin Cinema by the New Pornographers. I really love it. Also, try getting one of the volumes of 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields (volume one is good... but that's really the only one I've listened to). They take a little getting used to, but they're really good. Other than that... I'm not sure. I haven't really bought many cds here.

nuts! That guy seemed nice. And probably still is! Are you getting a new RA? What's with the strict candy policy?

Annie, you should get this cd by a Norwegian singer named Annie. She's awesome. You guys have a lot in common.

Also recommended:
Broken Social Scene, "You forgot it in people"
Missy Elliot, "Under Construction"
M.I.A., "Arular"
Presidents of the United States of America (self-titled)

That was a musical stream of consciousness. I have no idea why I picked those four. But they're all SWEET.

yee ha!

I don't know... I liked the first half or so of "You Forgot it in People" but then it lost me. Actually, maybe I should give it another listen, in the spirit of The Hold Steady. Too bad I didn't bring it with me.
